The main goal of the current diploma thesis is the development of a fully integrated system, which will allow students of the Electrical & Computer Engineering Department of the National Technical University of Athens, to register online for their semester courses. Suitable control and access interfaces were developed for the above system, in order to be used from the registrar office, which is responsible for the whole registration process. Generally speaking, this thesis is responsible for the correct adaptation of the current procedure to the Internet and the world wide web, in a clear, precise and user-friendly way. In order to summarize the basic directions of this thesis, it is suitable to talk about three main issues. The first one focused on the operational variables and the graphical layout of the project, which is designed for optimal user-friendliness, usability and scalability. The second one has to do with the reliability of the system, its security issues and its connectivity with current subsystems. Because of its nature, collaboration with several integrated operational systems is needed and therefore performed by its implementation. Finally, the third issue deals with the users, their needs, their access levels and their information feeds, and categorizes them in several groups according to the above. In conclusion, the system developed in this diploma thesis is a fully organized, scalable system for online registrations and can be used from students, faculty and personnel of the Department. It provides to the point solutions of the current registration procedure problems and is adaptive to all future developments and expansions of the Course Program.
